A Message from Sandra Lee, Executive Director
January is an especially meaningful time for us at Decoda as we prepare for Family Literacy Week, taking place January 25 to February 1, 2026. We are grateful to the Government of British Columbia for once again proclaiming Family Literacy Week in BC and recognizing the importance of family learning across the province.
This year’s theme, “Make mealtime family learning time,” highlights how everyday moments like cooking, eating and talking together can support learning at home. You can read more about Family Literacy Week events, activities, resources, and our annual contest on our website.
This issue also includes a story about two generous donors whose love of reading led them to make a remarkable gift through Give a Book. Give Literacy. Their donation is helping put books into the hands of literacy and community organizations across BC and shows the real difference individual donors can make.
Here at Decoda, we are looking ahead. Planning is underway for the Decoda Literacy Conference in April, which brings together literacy leaders, partners and advocates from across the province. The conference is an important space to share ideas, learn from one another and strengthen literacy work in communities across BC. At the same time, our Board and staff are working together on a new three-year strategic plan, with a focus on financial sustainability and strengthening how we communicate the impact of our work.
As the new year unfolds, I want to say thank you for your continued support of our work. Your generosity helps strengthen literacy programs today and build a stronger future for tomorrow. January is also a wonderful time to renew your support and help sustain this work in the year ahead.
I encourage you to read our 2024/2025 Annual Report and Year in Review to see the impact of your support and the success stories you help make possible.
With gratitude,
Sandra Lee
