Decoda’s New Digital Literacy Library
We now have a new online digital literacy library featuring two collections of works and publications from Decoda Literacy Solutions and Literacy BC (the provincial literacy organization prior to 2011). The platform used is Internet Archive and all items in the digital library are in PDF format that can be downloaded on your device for free. The purpose of the digital collection is to make it the hub for Canadian literacy research and information in BC.
Both collections offer valuable information to literacy practitioners, researchers, adult learners and community programs throughout Canada. They cover topics such as workplace literacy, adult literacy, youth literacy and family literacy and are accessible for free
The Collections

The first collection features 57 publications from Decoda Literacy Solutions and Literacy BC, along with foundational information about Literacy BC. The materials date back to 1988 and include final reports on major Literacy BC projects such as the 2003 Final Report on the Literacy BC Summer Institute and the National Youth Literacy Demonstration Project.
The collection also contains publications from significant Decoda Literacy Solutions projects, including the Strengthening Rural Canada series—beginning with its first publication, Strengthening Rural Canada: Fewer and Older – The Population and Demographic Dilemma in Rural British Columbia and materials from the Displaced Workers Project.

The second collection features 151 published newsletters from Literacy BC and its founding literacy partners. The newsletters contain literacy information, major literacy events and projects including cost-sharing projects in all parts of British Columbia between 1988-1999. Also included are newsletters from Literacy BC founding partner, Adult Literacy Contact Centre dating back to it’s First issue in March 1988.
