In late March, Decoda Literacy Solutions and Prace PageTurners, formed a new collaborative partnership to enhance Decoda library resources with short, easy-to-read stories for adult learners.

Prace PageTurners created a donation page containing a curated wishlist of books for Decoda Library. This donation page can also be viewed by the public on Prace Pageturner’s website under the drop menu “Donate a Book.” In return, Decoda Literacy Solutions will increase Prace’s visibility across British Columbia through blog posts and social media. This collaborative partnership means a lot for both non-profits. Decoda Literacy Solutions has a history of purchasing books from Prace through their library and PageTurners is often a suggested resource for adult learners by Decoda’s Library Technicians. For Prace, their vision is “Changing lives through education”, so they are happy to assist an organisation such as Decoda Literacy Solutions that holds the same values and passion for education. By partnering with organizations like Prace PageTurners, Decoda expands its ability and commitment to foster literacy at all stages of life and continues to be a trusted resource in the literacy community of British Columbia.

About Prace PageTurners and Background

Prace is a charity that provides community education courses in Melbourne, Australia, and has done so for over 30 years. They provide adult literacy classes, English classes for new migrants, short courses for people getting back into work and a secondary education program for disadvantaged young people. PageTurners began twenty years ago as a small experiment. At that time, it was hard to find books suitable for adult beginners in literacy and those learning English. Several teachers decided to start making their own books. When these proved popular with their adult learners, Prace thought it would be a good idea to publish and to sell them.  Nobody would have dreamed that the PageTurner books would be sold across Australia and in Canada, New Zealand, USA and United Kingdom.

The Books PageTurners

The series contains humourous stories that are no more than 700 words, accompanied by reading exercises and word lists that make it ideal for low literacy adult learners who are new to Canada. Each book also contains a reading level between 1-3 for beginner to intermediate learners. The most recent Series 10 came out in 2024 will likely be the last series for Prace PageTurners. The writing team is finishing up as Moira Hanrahan, the main illustrator wishes to retire.
