CARA, an informal reading inventory for adults, consists of the following components:
the Instructor’s manual that contains 50 passages and a set of factual and inference questions. The resource includes this digital tool that contains interactive exercises on how to administer, score and interpret CARA. A description of CARA’s technical development is included.
The Student’s assessment booklet that contains 50 passages ranging in readability from grades one to twelve. The passages are grouped into nine levels, with each level containing a combination of narrative and informational passages.
This digital tool was developed using the open source framework called H5P in partnership with Grass Roots Press. It is intended to replace the original CD-ROM of extended CARA materials as part of the Instructor’s manual. Portions of the material have been removed or updated.
We will be temporarily closing the Decoda Literacy Library from April to mid-May to accommodate schedules around and after the Decoda Conference. Please email Sandra, Executive Director (slee@decoda.ca), for urgent library requests.
