Sniffing Out Clues with Gunner the Dog
Join us every Friday in July and August and learn about the Decoda staff’s summer reading picks. Today Gunner, owner of Jade Chan, Training Specialist, is sharing his summer reading pick.
Hello! I am Gunner, Jade’s furry companion. I just turned 4 years old and that makes me equivalent to a 28-year-old human. Thank goodness I am a pet because I wouldn’t want to become an adult who has responsibilities like house chores, work a 9-5 and file taxes.
This year my human and I went on lots of adventures! Back in May, we road tripped to Arizona and Utah. Then, for my birthday weekend, we camped near Mount Baker, where there was still snow for me to play in. I love going on these trips because that’s usually when my human has more time to spend with me and she gets to read more as well.
One book she just finished is called The Maid by Nita Prose. It is a murder mystery that got both of us hooked from the beginning to the end. My human likes to read aloud so I listened attentively and sniffed for clues!
Molly Gray is the main character, she is a hotel maid at the Regency Grand Hotel. She found herself embroiled in a crime after discovering a guest’s body in a room she had meticulously cleaned. This book is about how Molly needs to clear her name while trying to piece clues together to find the murderer. The good news is, Molly has an obsessive-compulsive tendency that allows her to notice every tiny detail, just like how I can always find the secret treats that are hidden under the couch.
This book kept us guessing until the very end. We really enjoyed reading this together and finished it during one of our recent camping trips. It’s nice to not have the distraction of that silly rectangular light box that my human carries around a lot. We recommend this book to anyone who loves a good suspenseful mystery!
