Supporting Children’s Literacy
Today we have Westcoast Early Learning Library as our guest writing to you about their library.
Literacy comes in many shapes and sizes and is not limited to books or even to printed materials. Listening and movement are two forms of literacy often overlooked when we talk about aspects of helping children develop full literacy skills. Using multiple languages with children to describe, interpret, and interact with the world empowers them for a lifetime. Languages are not just those which we speak but are also things like patterns, movement, painting, dramatic play, interactions with nature, and the written word. Any attempt to express an idea is a path to literacy. And it is with these many literacies that we play, interact, and learn with others, materials, and the world.
Westcoast Childcare Resource Centre (WCCRC) in Vancouver provides comprehensive child care information, referrals and resources for parents, early childhood education students, early childhood educators and other educational support staff.
As part of those services, the Westcoast Early Learning Library (WELL), provides high-quality educational resources and knowledgeable support to help educators and parents fuel their children’s imagination, bringing literacy to life. We’re here to help make literacy fun and engaging – ensuring that our children develop a love for learning and confidence to use those skills to unlock the doors to their dreams.
Looking for a right child care fit for your family? Need help locating childcare centers in your area or help understanding and filling out an Affordable Child Care Benefit application?
