Let’s Connect with Family History!
It’s Family Literacy Week! This year’s theme is “Let’s Connect! Care • Play • Listen.”
One of the many ways your family can connect and encourage a sense of well-being and belonging is to explore your family history. You can create a family tree together, tell family stories, or talk about what makes your family unique.
Genealogy is the study of family ancestries and histories.
Through genealogy we discover the stories of all the members of our families: when they were born, where they lived and lots of other interesting information. For younger kids, more active family history activities may be more appealing. This could be a trip to the cemetery, examining family heirlooms, looking through old photo albums or even scanning family photographs. Older kids may enjoy being the family history detective by using genealogy software to track down relatives. They might also like interviewing family members or creating a family history scrapbook.
