Movember for English Language Learners

Every November, the men’s health fundraiser Movember occurs. The name “Movember” combines the words “moustache” and “November.” Movember is a global charity that raises money for men’s health concerns. People raise money by growing a moustache, or participating in their other fundraising initiatives. Your English language learners could be curious about this event and what is involved. Take this opportunity to not only teach about Movember and men’s health literacy, but also develop important literacy skills.

“We want to help men live happier, healthier, longer lives through investing in three key areas: mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.” – Movember.com

The fundraiser first started when two Australian friends came up with the idea over drinks. Each friend challenged the other to grow a moustache during the month of November. They recruited 30 friends to join them sparked conversations around and awareness for men’s health. Now a world-wide movement, Movember raises funds for programs tackling mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

Both men and women can help fundraise. To participate, sign up at Movember.com and fundraise by:
