Embracing a Restful Summer: My Eclectic Reading Adventure

Join us every Friday in July and August and learn about the Decoda staff’s summer reading picks. Today Avni Kapoor, Decoda’s Office Administrator, is sharing her summer reading picks.

As I embark on this year’s summer reading adventure, I find myself yearning for a restful and rejuvenating experience. Inspired by my recent trip to Cambridge, UK, I aim to curate a collection of books that will transport me to different worlds, evoke emotions and leave me feeling content. This year, my reading choices reflect my desire for comfort, intellectual stimulation and a dash of romance. So, let’s dive into my summer reading list!

To set the tone for a relaxing summer, I’ve chosen my ultimate comfort book, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy! This whimsical and hilarious tale has accompanied me on numerous journeys before. Each time I revisit it I find solace in its pages. It’s the perfect blend of wit, absurdity and adventure, offering a delightful escape from reality.

In the realm of non-fiction, I’ve picked Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman! This memoir by Nobel laureate Richard Feynman provides a captivating insight into the mind of a brilliant physicist. Feynman’s anecdotes and adventures showcase his unique perspective on life, science and the pursuit of knowledge. It’s a book that inspires introspection and encourages us to approach life with curiosity and enthusiasm.

Continuing my exploration of brilliant minds, I’ve also delved into The Almanack of Naval Ravikant. The link has a free pdf attached to it! Naval, an entrepreneur and a philosopher, shares his wisdom and insights on topics like wealth, happiness and success. This thought-provoking book offers valuable lessons and practical advice that can be applied to our own lives. It’s a reminder that simplicity and clarity often pave the way to greatness.

As a fan of feel-good romcoms, I couldn’t resist diving into Emily Henry’s latest book, Happy Place. While it may not be my favourite among her works, it still captures the essence of lightheartedness and summer vibes. With its charming characters and delightful banter, this novel is the perfect companion for lazy beach days, allowing me to indulge in a heartwarming story while basking in the sun.

To add a touch of excitement to my restful summer, I’ve chosen Bitch by Lucy Cooke as my bedside read. This intriguing and unconventional read explores the complex and often misunderstood role that the female sex plays in the animal kingdom. Cooke delves into their behaviour, biology and societal dynamics, challenging stereotypes and shedding light on the fascinating lives of these remarkable creatures. Expect to be captivated by this unique blend of science and storytelling.

As I navigate through this all-over-the-place reading list, I encourage you to make your reading endeavours selfish and enjoyable. Whether it’s revisiting old favourites, exploring new genres or immersing yourself in thought-provoking non-fiction, remember to have fun and let your reading choices reflect your personal desires and interests. Happy reading!
