COR – Learn to think like a fact checker
Students continue to have trouble determining if online information is reliable or fake. A recent study found that two-thirds of students couldn’t tell the difference between news stories and ads (“sponsored content”) on Slate’s home page.
The Stanford History Education Group has designed a free curriculum, Civic Online Reasoning (COR), to teach students to think like a fact checker. The emphasis is on lateral reading as an important digital literacy skill.
